XE1.R914Y.NET – Game Design Overview
Mission
- Help kids learn real technology concepts & vocabulary by collecting, upgrading, & battling with tech themed cards.
- Every upgrade represents real knowledge: players must complete learning tasks, missions, & challenges to power up their cards.
Core Concept
- Tech learning card game with hacker style aesthetics & real computer science, networking, cybersecurity, OS, hardware, & software terms.
- Kids earn cards through real world actions (chores, school awards) & in game victories, then unlock upgrades by demonstrating understanding.
Game Structure
- Domains: major tech areas (Web Dev, Programming, Networking, Cybersecurity, Databases, Operating Systems, Hardware, Software, Mobile Apps, Cloud/Servers, AI, Robotics/Engineering).
- Clusters: each domain has 10 focused topics.
- Tiers: Common (Silver), Upgraded (Gold), Cutting Edge (Platinum), Quantum (Diamond).
Card Types per Cluster
- Buddy + Character pair (centered on a real tech term:
router, HTML, kernel, encryption, etc.).
- Systems card (explains the concept and lists related vocabulary).
- Skills card (knowledge/ability gained).
- Weapon card (tool/capability that can be used in battles if the player answers questions correctly).
- Environment card (system context: network, OS, app stack, etc.).
Visual Design
- Hacker vibe UI: neons, glassmorphism panels, claymorphism characters, metallic frames, & circuit-board art with glowing nodes.
- Each domain has a palette; each cluster has an accent color; each character uses a variant of that accent (different saturation/brightness).
Systems Cards & Vocabulary
- Title: real tech term (
router, HTML, kernel, encryption).
- Description: 2–4 short sentences explaining what it does & why it matters.
- Vocabulary: 3–7 related terms with 1 line definitions.
- Connections: notes on related clusters/domains.
Registry & QR Codes
- Back of each card: registry line for first owner signature + date.
- QR code linking to an online entry with card ID, current owner, & trade history.
Man Pages per Domain
- Domain documentation sheets inspired by Unix
man pages: NAME, SYNOPSIS, DESCRIPTION, TERMS, FILES/RELATED CARDS, USAGE/MISSIONS, SEE ALSO.
- Kids can “run” man pages (e.g.,
man networking) during play to look up concepts.
Leveling & Upgrades
- For each upgrade, a player must complete:
- Bite size learning (reading/explaining Systems card & domain man page).
- Mission (applied task: diagram, mini build, scenario).
- Challenge (question, puzzle, or timed quiz).
- Completing all 3 unlocks 1 upgrade (stronger weapon, new skill effect, or higher tier).
Battles – Knowledge Based Combat
- Battles focus on building & defending systems (networks, OS setups, app stacks), not just hit points.
- To play a weapon/skill, players must answer a question about its term correctly (definition, usage, scenario).
- Trivial Pursuit style: question cards tied to the card you want to activate; correct answers “deploy” effects, incorrect answers weaken or cancel them.
Earning Cards
- Real world tasks (chores, helpfulness, school awards).
- In game achievements (completed learning paths, missions, challenges, battle wins).
Title & Domain
- Game name: XE1.R914Y.NET – encodes family initials & matches the domain you own, hosting the online registry & digital man pages.
